The Country of Nepal

History of Nepal

Nestled in the heart of the Himalayas, Nepal is a land of stunning natural beauty and rich cultural heritage. Nepal has long been a spiritual center in South Asia with the main religion being Buddhism.
Nepal remained an isolated monarchy for much of its history, preserving its unique traditions and way of life. In the mid-20th century, political reforms opened the country to the world, culminating in the establishment of a federal democratic republic in 2008. Despite modern advancements, Nepal remains deeply influenced by its Hindu and Buddhist roots, with over 80% of the population practicing Hinduism.

Christianity was introduced in Nepal relatively recently, with the first modern missionaries arriving in the 1950s after the country's borders opened. Since then, the Gospel has steadily grown, transforming lives and communities in the face of significant challenges, including persecution. Today, Nepal stands as a mission field ripe with opportunity, as more people are encountering the message of hope and salvation in Jesus Christ.

Global Mission Nepal

Nepal is a land of diverse ethnic groups, with 227 distinct people groups calling this nation home. However, an overwhelming 94.7% of these groups remain unreached, representing over 27 million people who have little to no access to the Gospel.

With Hinduism dominating at 81.7%, there is a critical need to share the love and hope of Jesus Christ in this spiritually underserved region.

Nepal’s  culture,  rich  in  mysticism  and  tradition, coexists  with  a  history  of discrimination,  poverty, illiteracy,  and  political  instability.  These  challenges have  driven  many  Nepalese  to  seek  better opportunities abroad, making them part of a global diaspora spanning Asia, Europe, and North America.
Founded  in  2014,  Global  Mission  Nepal  exists  to reach  this  dispersed  community  with  the  love  of Jesus  Christ.  Through  bold  evangelism  and  the formation of vibrant church communities, we aim to glorify God and share His promise of redemption and eternal life (Matthew 28:19-20; Acts 1:8). Together, we strive  to  fulfill  humanity's  ultimate  purpose:  to worship and honor our Creator.

Gospel Impact

Though only 1.43% of Nepal’s population identifies as Christian, the evangelical growth rate of 5.3% far surpasses the global average, demonstrating a hunger for truth in the hearts of the Nepalese people. By stepping into this mission field, we can bring the light of Christ to those in need, build a foundation of faith, and empower the local church to thrive in one of the most spiritually challenging areas of the world.

Light In The Darkness

Sharing the Gospel to these unreached villages is vital because every individual deserves the opportunity to hear the Good News of salvation. Jesus commanded us to go and make disciples of all nations (Matthew 28:19). By sharing the love of Christ, we not only fulfill this mandate but also bring hope, peace, and eternal life to those who are searching for meaning in their lives. Reaching these villages demonstrates God’s care for all people, ensuring that even the most remote communities experience His love and redemption.
