“And all these, though commended through their faith, did not receive what was promised…” Hebrews 11:39 ESV
Do you ever wonder if prayer matters? I do. I have prayed for many, many, many things wondering if it will ever come to pass. The letters you have already received up to this point prove that God has answered many prayers of many people over the years.
I long to see Partner 135 used to carry the light into some of the darkest places in the world and I have no idea how it is even possible. But stories like this one encourage and strengthen my faith to pray for bigger and bolder things.
On September 25, 1873, “the serving seven” left the shores of Canada. Among them were George and Matilda Churchill. After a couple of brief stops, they eventually ended up in a small town in South Asia. The Churchill’s served faithfully and sacrificially through many hardships including opposition from local villagers, severe sickness, and the death of three young children (a daughter who died at birth [April 1875], Willie [Sept. 1881, 6 years old], and Georgie [July 1888, ~4 years old]).
Yet through all their hardships and endless obstacles the Churchill’s were faithful in establishing a Christian boarding school, planting churches throughout the region, and carrying the gospel of Jesus Christ into remote surrounding areas where the gospel had never been heard.
As you can imagine, the loss of their children was so difficult. But what made it more difficult is that, with proper medical care, these illnesses could have perhaps been treated and healed. Matilda was convinced a hospital was necessary on this compound and began dreaming and praying that, one day, a hospital would be opened on this site.
Approximately 30-35 years ago, a grandmother who lived on this compound would lay her hands on her two grandsons and pray, “Father, raise these two boys up to be doctors for You.” This was a daily routine and she believed for it to come to pass one day in faith.
Though she never saw the outcome of her prayers and neither did Matilda Churchill, I am pleased to report to you that in April of 2024, this dream and these prayers are coming to fruition! The two grandsons? Well, one is an Orthopedic Surgeon, and the other is a Dentist! They are opening a hospital on that same compound!
For security reasons, I cannot give you full details of the location. But I can tell you because of our partners' generosity and faithfulness in prayer for doors to open, Partner 135 has helped to bring this project to fulfillment. We are still in need of temporary support to keep costs paid until revenue from patients grows so, please keep praying faithfully. You might be asking, “How does this fulfill the Great Commission?” Well, during the pandemic, the hospital was allowed by the government to treat patients and 50 out of 51 patients put their faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior! This hospital is a place of evangelism, and the church is strong in the Word.
Pray for lives to be saved and for lives to be SAVED. Thank you for your partnership in the Gospel that makes stories like this happen!
Blessings,
Matt O. President/CEO, Partner 135
