Encouragement from the Youth of Huamachuco

This story was originally shared in the August 2022 Partnership Press, quarterly newsletter.

Each week, Nilton leads a youth service at Huamachuco. There are approximately 5 young people who are attending regularly and a few who participate irregularly. Currently, they are studying through the book of Second Timothy, teaching the youth how to study the Bible.

One of the students must move away to pursue professional studies, this has been somewhat difficult because she often motivates the other students to serve God. Nilton received an encouraging word from this student, Yadira. She shared with him how the Bible studies have helped her in her faith. She told him that before becoming a believer, she rejected the things of God and was an idolater (she worshipped the images of the saints and virgins). After studying the book of Ephesians, she felt in her heart to throw away the images she had adored. In addition, through her studies, she has understood the love of God and her own sinful condition. She is still a young believer, but she is faithful to the things of the Lord and is always willing to support. Nilton asks that you pray for Yadira as she has moved away to Lima. Pray that she can adapt to living on her own in a big city, that she will find a good church to be a part of, and that her faith will grow and persevere as she studies.

"Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity. Until I come, devote yourself to the public reading of Scripture, to exhortation, to teaching."

1 Timothy 4:12-13 ESV
