This story was originally shared in the Fall 2022 Partnership Press, quarterly newsletter. It was written by a long-time mission trip team member, Chris B.
This 10th trip to Peru was especially sweet to me because I thought I would never have the opportunity to return to my beloved Peru and its beautiful People! But God opened the door, and then He grew and stretched and taught me just like every time before.
Our team consisted of 5 people from 5 states ranging from 61 to 75 years old.
This trip was in many ways an exploration of what the landscape was like post-COVID. And it seems to have hit the area very hard. I know of 3 men, Giants in the faith, who have passed away since my last visit, but I am happy to report that they each left disciples who have picked up the work and are going strong… which is exactly as it should be!
We worked in 7 different churches. We did Eye Clinics, backyard Bible Clubs, Door to Door Evangelism, Evening Teaching/Training sessions, a Woman’s Conference, and a Discipleship Conference at the Seminary.
We recorded about 300 Professions of Faith in Christ. Of course, there is no way to really know for sure how many were genuine, but I do know this--about 300 folks clearly heard the Gospel message, prayed to receive forgiveness, and indicated a desire to begin a relationship with Jesus. And now the Pastors of the local churches we worked in have the names and addresses of each one of those folks for follow-up! I trust God will bless our efforts!
I am grateful that God gave me the chance to return to Peru. There were many more things that happened, and most will remain only in my mind. In many ways, it was like going home! I hope maybe I can return someday, and I hope that you might consider going as well. Thank you for your prayers and your support.
Thank you, Chris, for sharing your story with us!
