The Story of Jackson

This story was originally shared in a Gospel Partner letter published in November 2022.

On our recent trip to Uganda, we hired professional drivers to stay with us all week and then take the team on a safari at the end of the trip. Our two drivers were Brian and Jackson. Brian was a born again believer in Jesus and Jackson was a Catholic. From discussions, we could tell we needed to pray for Jackson's salvation. The drivers were with us the entire trip for all clinics and Gospel presentations.

Six days into the trip was a Sunday and I was asked to preach at a gifted evangelist's church, and I was asking the Lord if I should even bother to share the Gospel because, most likely, everyone there has already heard it.

I clearly heard Him say, "Yes," to which I replied, "Will anyone be saved today, Lord?" The Lord said, "there will be one." So that was that.

I preached an encouraging message and then shared the Gospel and gave a standard call to faith in Jesus as Lord and Savior. The Holy Spirit nudged me to tell the crowd that I had heard that one would be saved. That was going out on a limb for sure, but I had to obey.  As I was asking whoever wished to receive Jesus as Lord and Savior, I asked those who wanted to raise their hand to let me know. After a long awkward silence and no responses, my interpreter pointed to the side of the stage and behind me. "The one is over here," he said.

That was when Jackson gave his life to Jesus and made Him Lord and Savior.  His testimony was amazing, and I know he became a born again that day. It was clear that his time spent "on the job" had done a job on his heart and he came to see Jesus and relationship with Him as something he could no longer live without.

"Just so, I tell you there will be more joy in Heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance." -Jesus
